COQUITLAM - The Evergreen Line is issuing another tender for the installation of new underground power supply lines in Coquitlam and the documents are available on BCBid.
The power supply will be used to operate the new rapid transit line when it opens in summer 2016.
The power supply installation is part of early works construction for the Evergreen Line to lay the groundwork for major construction and to keep the project schedule on track.
Work will include digging a 1.5-metre trench, installation of BC Hydro duct banks to house the power lines and resurfacing to the previous condition. Construction will take place in the following areas of Coquitlam:
- Pinetree Way from Glen Drive to Town Centre Boulevard.
- The Mariner Way access road to the West Coast Express park-and-ride for the Coquitlam Central Station.
- Falcon Drive at Barnet Highway.
The work is anticipated to take approximately three months and be completed in spring 2013.
Every effort will be made to minimize disruption and maintain access for both business and residents. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Evergreen Line Project Office at 604 927-4452.
Other early works activities are well underway or nearing completion, including the widening of North Road in Burnaby, the installation of hydro poles in Coquitlam and power supply upgrades in Port Moody. More information about early works construction is available on the Evergreen Line website: www.evergreenline.gov.bc.ca
SNC-Lavalin has been selected as the preferred proponent. It is anticipated that the primary contract for major construction will be awarded in November 2012.
Construction will create 8,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The Evergreen Line is scheduled to open in summer 2016, providing rapid transit for the first time to the communities of Coquitlam and Port Moody, as well as the students of Douglas College.
