KELOWNA - The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of the man whose body was found on a sandbar near the mouth of the Seymour River on Aug. 13, 2012.

He is Andrew James Wilson, aged 24, from Salmon Arm.

Mr. Wilson had been swimming with a friend in the Seymour River just above Seymour Falls on June 11, 2012, when he was observed getting caught in the swift current and swept over the falls. A search at that time did not locate Mr. Wilson.

On Aug. 13, following an alert by a boater passing the area, Mr. Wilson's body was discovered on the sandbar where the Seymour River flows into the Seymour Arm of Shuswap Lake.

The Coroners Service continues to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. Wilson has been notified of these findings. On behalf of family members, the Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

The BC Coroners Service expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Wilson.
